Last week I was booked to shoot the new promotional images for London/Kent based 6-piece Story Books.
I find it very challenging to describe Story Books, and any attempt to fit them nicely into a genre is a waste of time. One word I would use to describe them is haunting. Now this may not be a word that pleases them much, but I find Kris’ vocals combined with his soaring lyrics quite chilling, in a good way!
Before I discuss the photo shoot I urge you to please go and listen to the band… they are simply incredible!
Now to the shoot… I was given a brief that made me very happy indeed. It was so far removed from the kinds of work I usually undertake which was very refreshing.
Some words we used to describe the look we wanted to go for were natural, ambient, not perfect, space, distance and indifference.
The images were to attempt to be as unposed as possible (which is harder than it sounds on an organised shoot). We weren’t worried about perfect lighting, everyone looking at the camera, or even being able to see each of the members faces. It was more about the atmosphere and the mood created which I think we achieved.
Below are a selection of the images for the shoot and I hope you like them.
